Smiles for Springfield Elementary's First Steps Program
January 30, 2014 - Earlier this morning Tim Horton’s Restaurant Manager J.P Velasco presented Springfield Elementary School’s First Steps Program with a cheque for $5060.00 for funds raised during the Smile Cookie Campaign.
The funds from the Smile Cookie Campaign supports the First Steps Program that gives students with special needs aged three to six a head start before entering kindergarten.
“The program is beneficial for children with delays in speech and gross and fine motor skills. Whether the students have mild or severe delays the program offers a learning environment that will help them build skills they will need to begin their kindergarten year successfully.” says Laura Munch, teacher in the First Steps class.
Over the past three years, the Smile Cookie Campaign raised a total of $12,561.00 for the First Steps Program.
“Being a part of the Smile Cookie campaign for the last three years has brought a lot of awareness to the program and has allowed us to purchase resources that help to meet the individual needs of the students in the class” says Munch.
“With this support we have been able to purchase two iPads, toys, math resources, pre-reading resources, exercise and movement equipment and rental of the new gymnastic center. We will always be grateful to Barb and Gord Drummond, Tim Horton’s and our community members for their amazing support.”
